Indonesian Sea controlled Climate Change

According to the latest research, the sea was able to reduction process of global warming and climate change (climate change). To understand the role of sea as  the control of climate changes, the Study Center for Coastal and Ocean Resources-Institut Agriculture Bogor (PKSPL-IPB) in collaboration with the National Marine Fisheries Research Department of Marine  and Fisheries and the Ministry of People's Welfare Coordinator held the workshop, at Hotel Salak , on Tuesday (4 / 8).

Rector of IPB,  Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, explains, the workshop agenda is a continuation of the World Ocean Conference (WOC) 2009 on May 2009 in Manado ago. At that time was produced Manado Ocean Declaration (MOD) and assigned to Indonesia for bring about immediately and play an active role in promoting the role of sea reduction acceleration of global warming.

"This workshop is very important and appropriate. We hope arranged the national mitigation road map (disaster prevention) and adaptation climate change in marine field, arranged that agenda of research and scientific networks and in the field of maritime policy in relation to climate change, and develop the regional cooperation / international  in the role sea in the process of climate change. In addition, 40 representatives will be appointed to represent Indonesia to Konfenhagen Netherlands, "explained Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto.

He present, the process of global warming caused by increasing content greenhouse gas especially carbon dioxide (CO2) in atmosphere. Scientists to identify, in the last 100 years was increasing gas contents are up to 100 ppm, from the current 380 ppm. So as, earth surface temperature increase was 2 degrees celsius. "Motor vehicle emissions are the main causes," he said.

Rector explains, reduction process of global warming with sea water going through transport carbon process from the air to the place and shape to the sea, among others fitoplankton fotosintesa  and  plants marine macro-and deposit carbon in  sediment in seabed and coral reefs. "At this time, caution and hope global community decreased to the sea role apart from absorption carbon by forests, especially with the high level of forest damage. Currently, Indonesia has approximately 5.8 million sea square kilometer, "said Prof. Herry.
